Overview
Usage
Thermal Vision is an exclusive gadget for Light Build. It allows the player to see heat signatures of other contestants and objects. Notably, it can be used to see through smoke. Thermal Vision can be active for a maximum of 20 seconds. After deactivating Thermal Vision, it will go on cooldown for 10 seconds, no matter how long it was used for.

Thermal Vision can be selected as one of three gadgets of any Light build loadout.

The primary trigger can be used to toggle on the gadget. It will remain active even while not holding the item for up to 30 seconds, after which it is automatically disabled to recharge. It can also be disabled before this point by toggling it again.

Uses & Interactions
Thermal Vision is great for countering Light Builds who use the Cloaking Device specialization, as it can detect them despite their attempt to hide. Thermal Vision is also great to use when the current arena has the foggy modifier, as it allows the player to see further. The main downside of Thermal Vision is its long cooldown.

Thermal Vision can be activated to grant its user temporary thermal vision. Most of the screen will be a gray color, whereas significant objects are highlighted in white. These objects include contestants, barrels, cash boxes and a few others.

It also allows its user to see past vision-obstructing objects, such as smoke clouds and gas clouds, but also general dust and debris caused by destruction and explosions, making for a clearer view of the area.

Opponents are fully visible even if they are under the effects of the Cloaking Device or Vanishing Bomb. If opponents are a long distance away, though, or fully obscured by a smoke cloud, they will not be highlighted during Thermal Vision and will simply be gray.

Gadget

Self Targeted — Can be activated to apply an effect to the contestant that used it.

Toggle — Can be enabled and disabled by reactivating.

Single Charge — Can be used once, then recharges automatically over the cooldown time.

No Disarm — Does not stop the user from using their other items while the gadget is active.

Effect

Visibility — Affects the line of sight of the user and/or opponents. Changes the user's viewing mode to thermal vision.

Not Permanent — Disappears by itself after enough time has passed.

Strengths

 • Thermal Vision is an effective counter to Light contestants using the Cloaking Device, as it will reveal them to the Thermal Vision user.
 • Thermal Vision has very short downtimes compared to its maximum duration.
 • In confined areas with lots of explosions, dust clouds and other vision-obstructing particles, Thermal Vision often provides the most value.

Weaknesses

 • Thermal Vision cannot see gas, which can potentially cause the user to walk into a damaging area unintentionally.
 • Thermal Vision has limited range and will not highlight far-away opponents.
 • When an opponent is not considered to be in the user's line of sight, they will not be highlighted. This includes them being fully obscured by a smoke cloud, even though the user can see through it with the gadget. In this case, the opponent will be grayscale and blends into the environment.

Tactics

 • Thermal Vision can be combined with the Smoke Grenade, as it is able to see through the smoke.

Item mastery XP for the Thermal Vision can be earned solely by activating it.

Each time a certain XP threshold is reached, the item levels up. This does not improve the item, but rewards a unique item customization.
